Medico Legal or Medicolegal is the name given to an issue relating to a medical diagnosis where the law is concerned with the cause and result. So this can be situations where there has been some trauma caused to a person or persons as the result of a car accident for example.

The Psychology Service provides Medico-Legal reports to support legal procedures that are undertaken due to negligence and personal injury, plus occupation health issues. Our personal injury division undertake a myriad of instructions every year that cover everything from Orthopaedics to Psychology Services, and in a percentage of cases physical trauma and psychological damage evaluation are necessary to provide a complete picture of consequence.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing is a form of therapy that aims to decode and resolve psychological problems that have transpired due to a traumatic experience. The after affects of a traumatic experience such as an accident, death or attack can lead to the development of serious disorders that can encompass and consume quality of life should it not be addressed and resolved.

The therapy was developed in the late 1980's by the American Psychologist Francine Shapiro, after she researched the potential link between eye movement and desensitisation.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is the practice of using learning techniques in order to allow a person to represent certain behaviours through a set or systematic procedure. CBT is used to treat a wide range of psychological disorders such as anxiety, mood disorders and substance abuse using techniques that allow the patient to use adopt self help applications in order to enhance group or individual therapy sessions.

A serious accident can leave you with post traumatic stress which, if left untreated can manifest and become a psychological behemoth that could develop to a chronic level. Our CBT Therapists come from all types of psychological backgrounds and are trained to an advanced level in cognitive behavioural therapy, accredited through the British Association for Behavioural Psychotherapy.

The British Psychology Service (BPS) is the representative body for practicing Psychologists and for the development of Psychology both academically in learning institutions and in the work place or professional practice. We are working to ensure that good practice is upheld in all areas of psychology in the UK in education, industry and socially.

Professional bodies, such as the British Psychological Society (BPS), the United Kingdom Counsel for Psychotherapy (UKCP) the British Association of Counselling (BAC), the British Association for Cognitive and Behavioural Psychotherapy (BABCP) and the Royal College of Psychiatrists, have developed processes of accreditation and registration of training courses and of individual therapists, providing some guarantee that they do have the necessary training and skills to carry out the therapy.
