Annual Update 2011
I have to say 2010 was probably our most challenging year both for the business and personally. It got to the point where it just felt that if anything could go wrong, it did!
To start with, I lost my old horse of 28 years who for many years had been the focus of my life. Then my Nanny of 6 years left (when trying to run a business and look after 4 young children, it’s like losing Mary Poppins!). Then we went on holiday and got caught in the ash cloud (it was quite an adventure all 6 or us getting back from Dubai via Greece, boat trip to Italy, car and then plane back to UK over 4 days!). Then I broke my ribs (don’t ask how!). Then we had a kitchen fire and then there was the planning for a Wind Farm just 700m from our house (not that I’m against renewable energy but faced with 7x 140m wind turbines i.e. bigger than the London Eye, surrounding your property is not why we live in the country – NIMBY here I come!) and so the year went on. Even a weekend break camping in France, resulted in us being delayed by a Ferry Strike! On top of all that for some explained reason there was a drop in work coming through which was a complete first in the history of The Psychology Service.
Was someone trying to tell me something? The high celebrations of our 10th anniversary seemed all of a sudden rather premature… however, at least we had a great party to remember it by!
The dramas were, of course, short-lived, although at the time seemed to be never ending. The second half of 2010 and into 2011 have been plain sailing – by comparison - and all seems to have settled down. Instructions have rocketed once again, and we have developed a most fantastic team, not only in the office but with our clinical managers, case supervisors and most importantly, you as consultants. It never fails to bring a huge cheesy grin to all of our faces in the office, when we get those lovely supportive messages from you all.
However, it has been a lesson learnt to never be complacent and with that in mind we continue to strive to ensure that the service we provide, both to our customers and consultants is one we can all be proud of.
