Working with Veterans

Increasingly, within The Psychology Service, we are asked to offer therapy to veterans, not only in respect to problems associated directly with combat stress, but also where the client has gone on to experience a further trauma, such as a road traffic accident. Therapy with this client group is often complicated by a variety of factors and it is all too easy to make matters worse rather than facilitating a recovery process.

We are delighted therefore that Suzanna has agreed to hold a training day on this area, not only to enhance our understanding of the problems experienced by veterans or sufferers of combat stress, but also to highlight the complexities of working with this client group. She will discuss the different therapeutic techniques that have been proved useful in addressing the presenting problems using case examples. Furthermore, she will address the issues that arise when undertaking therapy in situations where such clients have been subject to further trauma.
