Derek Farrell

Dr Derek Farrell is a Lecturer in Health Sciences (Mental Health) at the University of Birmingham. Derek is also an EMDR Europe Approved Trainer and Consultant and an Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist with UKCP and BABCP. He Co-Chairs the EMDR Europe Science & Research Committee, Co-chair EMDR Europe Practice Sub-Committee and a member of the EMDR Europe Board, Past President of EMDR UK & Ireland, Chair EMDR UK & Ireland Accreditation Committee, & Chair of the West Midlands Branch of BABCP. His Psychology doctorate specialised in the area of complex PTSD focussed upon survivorís experience of sexual abuse perpetrated by clergy and religious.

He has been involved in a number of Humanitarian Assistance Programmes training mental health workers in the aftermath of the Turkish and Pakistan earthquakes and the Indian Ocean Tsunami. Derek established the first UK University based EMDR training at Masters Degree Level from the University of Birmingham a training that has been validated by EMDR Europe. In September 2009 the first academic programme commences of a Post Graduate Certificate in EMDR. The university training is currently the basis of the ongoing EMDR HAP training in Pakistan. To date Derek has had ten articles published and been fortunate to have presented his research throughout Europe, North America and Australia.
