Managing Pain
Helen MacDonald, Frances Cole, Cathy Carus and Pete Moore
£235 + vat, deposit of £50
In June 2007 we were delighted to welcome Helen Macdonald, Frances Cole, Cathy Carus and Pete Moore who presented a superb training day on cognitive behavioural approaches to managing pain. Through popular demand, this dynamic team have agreed to a repeat performance!
Day one of the course will offer a comprehensive training on managing pain from a psychological perspective, including the understanding of models of pain within a biopsychosocial framework and identifying and applying appropriate cognitive behavioural approaches to management.
The emphasis is upon increasing the individual’s sense of control over the pain to establish a greater quality of life and level of activity. A range of cognitive and behavioural techniques will be presented.
The second day will include a focus upon complex pain presentations such as working with somatoform pain disorders, or where pain is medically unexplained, and complex regional pain syndrome.
Furthermore, we will also be extending our training to include EMDR, which is increasingly being used to improve coping and reduce chronic pain and suffering.
Our trainers Helen Macdonald, Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, Dr Frances Cole, GP, Cathy Carus, Physiotherapist, and Pete Moore, from the Expert Patient Programme in Essex, have a wealth of experience in the treatment of pain. Their book, Overcoming Chronic Pain, is an excellent self help guide and a ‘must have’ for anyone working in this field!
The cost of the two day training will be £235 plus VAT, including lunch and beverages. Please ensure that you book your place, with a £50 deposit. If you have previously attended the workshop but would like to attend the second day only, please call our offices to discuss this option.
